Kitsap Art Center, located in beautiful Old Town Silverdale is looking to expand our team. As the premier provider of art education on the greater Kitsap Peninsula since 1998, we offer high quality fine art classes for both children and adults in a wide variety of media.

We passionately believe that there are no mistakes in art and Kitsap Art Center strives to be a safe space where students are encouraged to draw and create for themselves using the fine art skills learned through our curriculum.

Art instructors at Kitsap Art Center are hired as independent contractors.

Current positions available:

  • Cartooning instructor - Silverdale
    Serving students ages 8 years – Teen. Classes are currently held:

    1. In-Person, Thursdays, 4:15 – 5:45 pm, September to June;
    2. Online(Zoom), Wednesdays 12:30- 2:00 pm, September to June;
    3. Summer Camps, weekday mornings or afternoons, a few days at a time, June to August; These classes incorporate basic drawing techniques while being inspired by character building, comics, manga, and anime. Class curriculum is available for use, but instructors are welcome to create their own curriculum.


  • Adult Class Instructor – Silverdale and/or Kingston

Serving students ages 13 years – Adult, year-round. Classes are currently on weekday evenings. Some daytime classroom availability also.

These classes are geared towards specific media and techniques for beginning to advance adult artists. Experience in Watercolor, Pastels, or Mixed Media is preferred.


  • Events Instructor – Silverdale and/or Kingston

Serving students ages 5 years – Adult, year-round. Events may be offered Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, and Sunday afternoons.
Canvas Events are done in our step-by-step method using acrylic on canvas.


Instructors will be trained to organize and implement the Kitsap Art Center methodology of art instruction and curriculum, including teaching protocols and responsibilities. Availability to occasionally fill in for other instructors is valued.

Individual instructors can fill multiple teaching positions and may have opportunities to expand course load into our other Kitsap Art Center programs and additional locations in Kitsap.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements:

  • Experience teaching children and/or adults.
  • Ability to draw and familiarity with various art media.
  • Experience managing a class of children and/or adults.
  • Ability to engage students through effective teaching and listening.
  • Ability to adapt instruction methods to reach students at multiple learning levels.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must be able to effectively multitask and prioritize workload.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to use a variety of instructional methods, materials, and techniques.
  • Ability to collaborate and work with other instructors to align classes.
  • Ability to follow Kitsap Art Center’s teaching protocols and responsibilities.


Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work on your feet for up to four hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to move equipment within the teaching environment.
